Risk Mitigation Isn't All That Important...

In today's high-pressure business environment, with fewer people doing more work, we tend to focus only on what's urgent. The time-tested priority matrix and the time-tested risk matrix, when blended together, yeild clear guidance on where we should spend our time. 

Unfortunately, urgency tends to be the trump card, with people spending their time on things that are urgent, but not important, rather than the important but not urgent (or high probability/low impact rather than high impact/low probability). If you are not already doing so, focus on quadrants one and two in the matrix, rather than one and three.
